Institute of mining and mineral processing launches bi-weekly seminars

Bi-weekly academic seminars presentations were launched by the Institute of Mining and Mineral Processing on 27th September 2017 and the inaugural event was graced by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Human Resource Development, DVC (ADRM), Prof F. Wachira. During the inaugural event two seminar topics were presented; Changing Mean and Extreme Climate over East Africa by Dr. Victor Ongoma and Effects of Climate Change on African Tea by Prof F. Wachira.

Prof F. Wachira making his presentation where it emerged that tea growing areas in western highlands of Kenya were diminishing faster than those in the Central highlands. This was attributed to Climate Change.

Dr. Victor Ongoma presenting his paper on, “Changing Mean and Extreme Climate over East Africa”. His work projected rainfall increase over East Africa region throughout the 21st century. He termed this to be a paradox given that current trends show a decrease in rainfall over the region.
